There’s something so beautiful and pure about the portrait drawn in the simple medium of graphite (pencil).
In this class, using a photo as reference, we will go step-by-step through the drawing process then carefully render the face. By using only pencil and eraser you will produce a beautifully finished portrait. By eliminating the guesswork of color, we will be able to study all the subtleties of value within the face. We will learn how to block in the drawing, how to determine our value structure for the whole drawing, how to draw each feature, and how to add the finishing details. On toned grey paper, we will use pencils of varying degrees of hardness and a white charcoal pencil for highlights.
